The final Merit League race and club 10k championship took place at this year’s Vale of Leven 10k on Saturday the 10th of June. It was a very drizzly morning and 6 Harriers turned up to run this race under its new organisation. The course was the same as last year, starting near the entrance to Balloch Country Park and going straight up the hill in the park, before coming back down the other side on the streets and then following a loop along the river and back in to the park to finish.
Having seen Kieran’s form on Tuesday night’s training run, I decided to go out hard and see if I could hang on to beat him. After the hill, I found myself in a good group and we ticked off a couple of fast kilometres. I found myself slowing in the 9th kilometre, but I knew the last 500 metres would be fast and managed to hang on for a finishing time of 40:06, which is a good bit faster than last year.
576 runners finished the run, which was won by Tewolde Mengisteab in 32:29.
Craig White – 40:06 (Mens 10k Champion)
Kieran Sullivan – 41:25
Scott Coulter – 41:54
Kenny Henderson – 52:15
Linda Sinclair – 52:39 (Ladies 10k Champion)
Fletcher Murdoch – 64:08
